Quickfire Q’s w. Albeau on His New Speed World Record

If you were hiding in a hole the last two days then this will come as fresh news to you that Antoine Albeau smashed the World Speed Record in windsurfing out the park with a staggering 53.27 knots. In fact he beat the existing record more than a handful of times on that epic day at the Luderitz Speed Canal. We sent him a few quick questions about the record attempt, the gear he was using and the conditions that day.

Over to Antoine…

BS: Firstly, congratulations on your new record, such an amazing achievement.
A2:
Thanks, yes it was unreal you can’t imagine the hardcore conditions we had!!

BS: It’s obvious to see you are super happy with your achievement, can you tell us a bit more about how you feel and how the atmosphere was at the beach today?
A2:
The atmosphere was not easy on the canal beach, it was super hard to just stand because of the wind and the flying sand. To be honest I was totally in my zone, so focused on this record that I didn’t really see how it was. I think you need to ask some of the other riders who were watching, but I can tell you that the conditions were EXTREME!

BS: What equipment setup did you have for the record breaking run?
A2:
I had the RRD speed proto 40, the Neilpryde EV08 5.2 and a ZFin 18 but I also made super good times with the Gazoil 18 and UFO 18 as well, all the fins are really good now.

BS: It seems hard to achieve these few knots more, do you think the 100km/h is possible before you leave?
A2:
For me I have only registered for 4 weeks [out of a possible 6], this is a real challenge for me to cut my slalom season in two between Sylt and Noumea, so this week is my last one and the wind forecast is not really good, so for me this is the finish I think, we will see, but some guys stay until the next forecast which is also looking quite good, but it is far off, so we will see.
