What is it?
It is exactly what it says on the box; a ‘quick guide’ to windsurfing for beginners and intermediates. It takes you from carrying the kit to the water, through to getting going and finishes off with a gybing and tacking chapter in planing winds. The DVD also has chapters on Weather, Safety and Gear.
Who edited it?
It was directed & produced by Robby Seegar (yes, the Robby Seegar)!
What we liked about it
It actually makes windsurfing look fun to learn!! Yes, Naish have pulled it off and made uphauling a beginner’s sail, falling in countless times and wobbling all over the place look pleasantly appealing!
It helps that the entire DVD was shot in Hawaii, mainly on Maui so we get sun kissed beaches, crystal clear waters and good looking windsurfers showing us the ropes with their tanned muscles and white teeth!! The film angles are very useful with mast cams, board nose cams, in the water footage etc. But mainly we liked the DVD because it doesn’t get too technical. It is a ‘quick guide’ yet tells you all you need to know before having a go.
What we didn’t like
We found it difficult to select a specific chapter from the main menu at the beginning.
Chick Butt .v. Blokes Muscles
Even if you are a wave sailing or slalom legend, we recommend you still purchase this DVD to enjoy the camera angles on Anne Marie Reichmann’s butt in the ‘Getting Going’ section. Let alone Tristan Boxford’s rippling forearms as he shows you where to hold onto the boom. Naish may deny all knowledge, but this will surely sell them a few more copies!
We loved the Weather section with all its talk about thunder storms and possible rain clouds. What – on Maui?
It’s background music throughout, sounding like a mix between lift music and the score from a Pink Panther film.
