With wind from the get go the single elimination got underway with most guys on their 4.4m sails and small boards. Just a few heats in and the conditions were already showing signs of fading as the competitors struggled to stick power moves. Nonetheless it held up enough to keep rolling through the heats.
After battling through to the final, Anthony Ruenes showed serious skill as he powered through impressive paskos, konos, burner funnels and more. Unfortunately for him Tonky Frans was totally tuned in to his homespot and nailed a brilliant pasko of his own, a huge backloop and a faultless kabikuchi to name but a few from his stacked repertoire to take the win of the first round here in Lanzarote.
We were on the beach filming both the winners and losers finals of the single elimination today. You can check out our quick ‘rough-cut’ super slow-mo highlights from the winners single below plus a full gallery of action below that and the latest ladder from the double elimination, which saw a few heats sailed before the winds became too marginal to provide fair competition.
