It has come to light that the PWA Aloha Classic will now be the final stop on the PWA Wave World Tour this year. More news about that soon. In the meantime the double elimination is in full swing and one heat that is currently about to kick off includes none other than Francisco Goya himself. We caught up with him for a few quick words between the single and the double. Read on to see more from the man himself.
Who are you facing in the double?
Jamaer, Hauser & Voget.
What’s your plan?
Hahhaa, really, just have fun and celebrate how lucky we are to be out there for 20 minutes with all the waves.
Who did you most enjoy watching in the single elimination?
Pretty much every heat was like a final but probably the one that kept me having to look twice if I was seeing right was Levi, he was just in the zone and I couldn’t be happier for him, he is the one everybody looks up to at Ho’okipa and that he is finally winning in his backyard couldn’t make more sense.
Any radically different equipment that you have spotted on the beach?
Nothing revolutionary, little steps, I believe that makes more sense most of the time anyway.
Whose gear seems to be working well?
Everybody seems to be pretty dialed in to their gear, the guys I end up watching the most are Levi, Braw, Bernd, Camile, Keith, Graham, Kauli, Victor, Morgan, Boujma, Kevin, Matt, Josh, I don’t know the list goes on and on and everybody looked great.
Who are your ones to watch for the double?
Pretty much everybody, sorry, it is the truth, there is no easy draw, every heat I saw a 360, Goyter, Taka, etc, etc and with the winds on the rise a whole different game could be coming up.
Who do you think we could see making a good comeback and why?
Braw, Camile, Victor, Ricardo but then the guys at the top were sailing great so that is there too.
Who missed out/got screwed a little in the single and you think is feeling the anger and motivated to really go for something crazy?
haha, I know Antoine didnt seem to need a reason to go for it in the single, I was worrying for him a couple of times. The other guys are all pretty experienced, they don’t need to go out of their zone if anything the opposite.
And do you think Levi can hold onto the win?
aigghh, that would be a hard one but anybody that gets all the way up there will be pretty stoked but also maybe a bit tired so don’t know, I know Levi will give it his best too.
Or who could really challenge him?
Whoever makes it all the way passed the earlier heats deserves a heat with Levi.
