Day one kicked off with a bang yesterday as conditions for 3.7-5.0 sail sizes saw all the competitors hit the water. Over to our inside man for more.

With the wind matching the forecast it was all systems go. A busy registration starting at 10 saw the usual crowd signing up for a promising week of wave action here in Tenerife. Among them though where 7 new girls and Nayra Alonso was back! In the men's fleet the legend that is Boujmaa was also back with an injury wild card.

After registration the men's trial heats opened up what was turning out to be a high wind first day here in El Medano. The level of the trials was a testament to the incredible level of the tour. It also brought out some new faces in the form of Moritz and Stillrich, the now infamous Pozo young guns, as well as some old as Scott 'new hip' Mckercher showed he has still got what it takes.

The men's heats started in high winds and some serious south swell much to the entertainment of the gathering crowd. Great action commenced with the usual assortment of huge push loops backloops and of course the trademark perfect`10 double forward from kid Koster. Adam Lewis was also unleashing some huge backies and 2 massive double forwards which unfortunately he couldn't quiet sail away from but he is certainly fired up and ready to impress.

As always seems to be the case Proffitt and Hancock met in the first rounds with Proffitt showing his experience or should we say age!! With a well polished competition heat seeing him through to the next round.

By now the tide had lowered taking the waves with them but the women's fleet pushed on through seeing the opening heats finished by the end of day, although the top ladies didn't manage to get out on the water. This gives us a chance to highlight Arrianne Aukes, fresh from her second place in Fuerteventura you could see her confidence as she busted out some big forwards giving the veterans something to sleep on tonight!
