We announced it yesterday, but it is confirmed, Antoine Albeau (NeilPryde/Starboard) is the new world fastest sailor!!! The forecast was predicting a record-breaking day, and it was like that. Since early in the morning, the sailors were already on 5,0m sails, taking even smaller during the day. The wind was around 40 to 45 knots, with some gusts of 50 knots. Serious wipe outs happened to nearly all the sailors and lots of them left the canal due to the hard core conditions. The record run for Antoine saw the sppedometer reading 48,5 knots, but after verification, the new possible world record was announced, with a speed of 49,09 knots. After the validations withIN the WSSRC margins, it was official, NEW SPEED WORLD RECORD! It was a great day, with also two other speed records broken: Patrick Diethelm (North Sails/F2) broke the production board speed record with 46,57 knots, and Farrel Oshea broke the British record with 44,34 knots. On the other side of the luck was Finian Maynard (NeilPryde/F2). Tough he finished in third with 45,85 knots, he missed some of his best runs due to spin out.
