Driven by Wind

The waiting period is finally done for 2008 and the Driven by Wind event is over. Its been a fantastic start for the event and although there was no overall record for Southend, they did still claim a number of records.

Dirk Doppenberg took the Dutch record with 44.49 knots, which also stands as the open sea record. Philip Adamidis has a new Greek record of 42.74 knots and finally John Kenny’s new Irish record of 40.44 knots (With Timo also equaling that speed).

A massive congratulations must go to Whitey for putting on such a great event. From all accounts going for competitor to organiser/competitor took a lot of work, but from the huge success of the event it must have been worth it for him.

We look forward to see what happens next year. It is clear to everyone that the spot has the potential to break the 50kts, its just a case of getting exactly the right conditions.
