We are not too sure what the exact date is, but its sometime this week that windsurfing celebrates its 41st birthday. On either May 15th (or 22nd) 1967 Jim Drake first stepped on his newly invented "windsurfer" and tried our beloved sport for the first time.

For those that haven\'t seen it before there is a brilliant film clip of this first session. It probably wasn\'t the best session ever and its clear that he could have done with some Jem Hall coaching to improve his stance and get himself on track. However it is worth noting that he had forgotten the fin and had yet to invent the uphaul, both things making life even harder for himself. Thankfully things have got alot easier since. Check it out here.
