Day 5 saw some pretty mixed conditions in Sylt. Strong wind in the morning dropped to absolutely nothing around lunch before coming back with a vengeance in the afternoon. A complete round of slalom was held along with almost the first round of the waves.
In the slalom conditions proved to be very tricky. The wind was ranging between 15 and 30 kts and with the start line along way up wind sail choice was both difficult and crucial. Doing his best to survive Josh Angulo took his first ever round victory in slalom and was looking very content. The real story though was Ross William\’s 2nd place, putting him in 1st place overall.
Straight after the slalom there was no rest as the wave sailors were sent out into the storm to do battle. With onshore and gusty squally winds battering the competitors it was very tricky conditions but there was still plenty of action. Move of the day was a perfect double from Dany Bruch, together with some solid riding he was looking very strong (and still without a board sponsor!). Unfortunately night came just before they could finish the first round, with 1 more heat remaining before the big seeds come out in round 2.
