It is that time of the year when a lot of the PWA pros are on Maui. It is the time of the photoshoots and it normally gets pretty crowded over there. We asked Nayra Alonso, who is at the moment shooting for Fanatic, to give us an update of what is happening in the Hawaiian windy island.
“This year has not being the greatest. So far the conditions are a bit up and down and the spots seem not to be too crowded at all. Maybe the crunch? Actually I think it is more that the conditions are not that great, so people are saving the energy. But it is windy and sunny, so we are still being able to shoot, what is really good. And hey! It is Maui, is always good to be here.
NeilPryde, Fanatic, North Sails and Naish are already shooting, and the Starboard crew, Gaastra and RRD are coming soon.
The wind at the moment is pissing off pretty much everyone over here. It is super windy, very gusty and not much waves, what makes things pretty difficult, but the likes of Victor, Brawzinho, Thomas Traversa, Moussolini, Voget, Kauli, etc… are making it look good.
Finally a decent NW swell will arrive tomorrow, so it will probably be a classic Hookipa day, with the crowd both on the water and on the cliff watching, helicopters flying and many photographers and big cameras around. All good fun!"
