News Headlines – Fri 30th

Apologies for the delay with today\’s headlines – we\’ve been glued to the PWA Live Ticker from PWA Fuerteventura as Bubble looks to be having a pretty good event. Having despatched fellow Brit Adam Sims in the first round yesterday, he\’s past Leo Ray in the second round in howling wind this morning … but will have to wait until after lunch to take on Nico Akgazciyan for a place in the quarter-finals. He\’s certainly in good company in that last 16

Keep up do date with all the latest Fuerte Freestyle buzz from straight-talking Max Rowe in our forums. Talking of straight-talking, Nayra Alonso seems less than amused that her annual Fuerte trip won\’t include any competition this year. Far happier is yesterday\’s popular star of the show, as Maarten Van Ochten basks in the glory on his blog.

Of course, the Sotavento Slalom\’s all over now, but – having released exclusive Boardseeker footage every evening, and well set to do so for the freestyle too – it\’s only fair that we show you some of the official PWA stuff. So kick back and enjoy the highlights of five days of high-octane racing…

With some new South American kids on the block at the Fuerte Freestyle, you might want to see how they\’re being hothoused out on the ABC islands. Yesterday Bonaire welcomed competitors from all over the world to the Starboard ProKids IFCA Youth / Junior Freestyle World Championship. The event finishes on Monday, but meanwhile check out the opening day here.

And finally, after yesterday\’s La Franqui speed movie, both NeilPryde and JP Australia are claiming a GPS Nautical Mile Record for Jacques van der Hout whose 42.63 knots puts a pretty big dent in Bjorn Dunkerbeck\’s retified 41.14 knots from Namibia 2006. Meanwhile, Mark van Osch is claiming a new internet connection speed record. Impressive!
