News Headlines – Mon 4th

So, World Cup Sylt is over for another year. And, let\’s be honest, conditions weren\’t exactly inspiring. There was just about enough for a single Freestyle elimination, won by World Champ Gollito, and seven rounds of Slalom saw Bjorn Dunkerbeck take the event win, although Antoine Albeau drove off with the World Championship title. Nothing materialised for the wavesailors though. More on – and here are the PWA movies from Friday and Saturday…

The waveheads over on Maui have had it much better, as the first major winter swell has been hitting the North Shore. Check out for some peachy Ho\’okipa footage. Or what about this little number from Ho\’okipa last Sunday courtesy of one \’HappySurfer\’? His goal was to produce the kind of movie he\’d like to see more of, including complete waverides rather than short, sharp cuts. And we reckon he\’s done a pretty good job of it too…

Meanwhile, Britain\’s best are all now focussing north-west to Tiree for this year\’s Wave Classic due to start on Saturday. And to get you in the mood too, here from the Official Tiree Wave Classic site is the 2009 movie.

Unlikely to be seen shivering on any Hebridean beaches, Steve Gibson is enjoying his new Fanatic Twin too much out on Fuerte. He sent us this little clip to underline the fact – more at

Onto freestyle and over to Egypt now, where Laure Treboux has been training in Dahab for three weeks. She tells us “The wind blew every single day, lots of my good friends were there, it was just perfect.” More at, and here\’s the evidence…

And finally, must be honest we didn\’t see it ourselves but seems John Skye and Nayra Alonso are set to get married. They really weren\’t planning on \’announcing\’ it too publicly, but somehow found themselves committing to each other on stage at Sylt in front of several thousand people and the PWA live streaming cameras! So to save them further blushes, we\’ll just say big congratulations – and recommend you hit this link to part one of Skyeboy\’s awesome 2010 footage on mpora.
