News Headlines – Tue 15th

It is really that time of year again? It\’s all go out on Maui as the Valley Isle prepares for the 2012 wave and freewave brand photoshoots. Brendan and the guys from umi Pictures have gone to join the party, Andre Paskowski\’s Minds Wide Open team are out to film too – you can follow Brawzinho, Kauli, Koster, Campello and Fernandez on Jimmie Hepp has some of the latest shots at, while Graham Ezzy\’s tweeting @grahamezzy that Jaws should be rumbling into life today – and here\’s the latest footage we\’ve seen of the action as Robby Naish, Kai Lenny, Mark Angulo, Kauli Seadi, Levi Siver and Keith Teboul perform for Jeff Bennett\’s lens at

So, sounds like it\’s going to get pretty big out there – but for today\’s huge action let\’s look closer to home and a little-known break called Cabo Higuer on the Franco-Spanish border in Galicia, where Sophia Regerbis captured Julien Taboulet and Thomas Traversa riding mountains last November.

Back in the UK, the Student Windsurfing Association have posted a full report on the culmination the their K3d wave trilogy, won by Steve \’SJ\’ Jarvis at Cardiff the weekend before last. More at

Some more wavesailing competition to savour this year promises be the American Windsurfing Tour – and we\’re pleased to see ex PWA judge Brian McDowell is getting behind the series as he\’s announced that Windsurfer International online mag is an official sponsor of the Tour. More at

Onto an altogether different competition discipline, and it\’s very interesting (in a relieved kinda way) to hear that Cabrinha boss Neil Pryde seems to have pulled the rug from under kitesurfing\’s hopes to become an Olympic discipline in 2016 at the expense of the windsurfing class. The man behind the brand is quoted on as having “now withdrawn my endorsement of the IKA Campaign because it is my view that Kitesurfing has not yet developed the rules of competition and disciplines that must be demonstrated to qualify Kitesurfing as an Olympic Event.”

A couple of new websites now – first up Euro freestyle sensation Steven Van Broeckhoven has launched a new blog site at, which ought to keep him busy while his knees recover from the impact (literally!) of his recent training in Cape Town. Meanwhile RRD have relaunched their media-rich product website at

And finally, as if life on Tour and at home on Gran Canaria isn\’t already adrenaline-filled enough, John Skye has introduced his bride-to-be Nayra Alonso to the joys of snowboarding. Sounds like our Skyeboy\’s a bit handy on the slopes too, but thankfully their tickets to Maui should get them both back onto the straight and narrow very soon… More at and
