With just a day to go until the 25th Tiree Wave Classic off the west coast of Scotland – and with surely one of the biggest forecasts in a quarter of a century – Jim Brooks-Dowsett of event host Pura Vida has posted the first news direct from the Hebridean isle. Sounds like the ferries are running fine, and Andy King, Sam Neal and Dave White are among the 30-something competitors already in training at Crossapol according to boards.co.uk
After the waves of Tiree, Britain\'s focus will turn towards speed and the similarly prestigious Weymouth Speed Week – 15-21 October, more at speedsailing.com. Seems Ant Baker\'s been putting in the runs in preparation up at West Kirby judging by his latest gallery on flickr.com, while there\'s a handy little guide to 10 speedsurfing do nots on speedsurfingblog.com...
More immediately though, this weekend\'s forecast also offers the South Coast\'s race-curious freeriders a couple of dates. Over in Dorset, the OTC / Weymouth Slalom are set to re-run last weekend\'s balmy Harbour Dash in a bit of breeze this Sunday 9th at Overcombe Beach according to otc-windsurf.com. While further east on Hayling Island, National Windsurfing Festival organiser Alan Cross is getting behind a burgeoning Hayling Slalom series with a fun get-together planned for tomorrow (Saturday 8th) at 2pm on Middle Beach, Beachlands. Our first bit of action today comes courtesy of Kevin Pritchard, whose latest Maui Nerd Production features the 2012 Ezzy Panther Limited in KP\'s capable hands on Maui. And island-hopping to Oahu, check out the latest gallery of Andrea DeCesari ripping it up on ezzy.com
For something a little bit different (yet probably more \'real world\' for many of us?) let\'s look to Thomas \'Kous\' Kousioris, who\'s uploaded Elevation Windsurf Action featuring himself and fellow Greek wave legends Panagiotis Kousathanas, John Ganotis, Fanouris Koumparos and John Satratzemis in action at Ftelia on Mykonos. Out to Long Island in New York State now, and thanks to the Peconic Puffin for keeping us up to date with the tragic story of Joe Rocco who died while windsurfing Hurricane Irene back in August. As a tribute to \'the mayor of Heckscher\', "A fine bronze sign now adorns the viewing stand at Joe\'s Beach in Heckscher State Park" as featured on peconicpuffin.com
And finally ... girls! The Moreno Twins are justifiably celebrating yet another 1-2 finish in the 2011 PWA Wave rankings at morenotwins.com, while Nayra Alonso\'s pretty happy about her third place overall at nayraalonso.blogspot.com. US soulsurfer Tatiana Howard has signed to JP / NeilPryde out on Maui as you can see at tatianahoward.com. While back to the PWA, SUI-4 Laure Treboux is stoked with her 2nd in freestyle and 6th in waves this season at lauretreboux.com ... in fact, she co-stars with Sveta Martynova and Olya Raskina in this 3-year rewind: Windsurf Beauties.
