The Canaries to The Sahara

Saturday 13th May – Lanzarote. Kirsty Jones, kitesurfing world wave
champion, set off in an attempt to smash the existing world kitesurf
long distance record.

Kirsty kitesurfed from continent to continent,
from the Spanish islands to mainland Africa.  She kitesurfered her way through 2m swells in 12-16 knots of wind.

Despite her concerns about the wind dropping off towards the end of last
week, and the unfavourable forecast for the weekend, the wind began to pick
up on Friday evening and the decision was made to give it her best shot.

Kirsty set off to Morocco, Western Sahara from a 19ºC overcast Las
Cucharas beach in Costa Teguise Lanzarote on Saturday at 10.20am this morning and it was \’go-go-go\’ to the Sahara.  At 7.20pm she finally put her feet back on dry land safe in the knowledge that she smashed the World Long Distance Record having kitesurfed 140 miles non stop from one continent to another!

In brief she said \’I\’m knackered!\’

Kirsty Jones has a whole heap of titles under her belt from 2x British Champion to World Wave Champion and now the current holder of yet another World achievement!

Congratulations to Kirsty and we\’ll try and bring you more photos soon.
