Yesterday saw a dramatic finale to the Sotovento Freestyle World Cup.
Firstly Daida Rueno Moreno fought back to the final as she powered through her usual moves in the super windy conditions. Laure Treboux on a 3.4 metre sail struggled to find land her moves. Daida then went onto the double elimination final where she beat off Sarah Quita. It was then one all so they had to sail off again. This time Sarah Landed her moves and took the win. The second for Daida meant that she needed a sail off against Laure Treboux to win second overall for the event. Despite a few crashes Daida won through with some big moves, and took second for the event.
Even more dramatic was the mens event. Anxton Oteageu was waiting to hold onto his first place. The double elimination saw diminutive Kiri Thode fight through. But no one was a match for Golito (who had already won the event). Anxton then went for a practice sail and upon being called back to the beach by the commentator came in and crashed a phonch dramatically breaking his foot (the same injury that took out Dioni Guadagnino). He was stretchered off the beach and straight to hospital, unable to sail in his final. (he still made it to the party tent).
Two new champions were crowned for the event. We will be bringing you all the action in the next issue...
