Today once again dawned super light winds here in Joao Pessoa. All morning riders did all sorts of things to entertain themselves from messing around on skimboards, body dragging with inflatable flip flops or just enjoying some nice sunshine. After lunch the wind picked up. It was just enough for riders to take their biggest kites, but nonetheless the wind just about hung in there enough to complete the single elimination.
Some heats were perhaps too light and there was a lot of running up the beach and complaints from riders but the judges decided with riders landing 8 tricks or more in the 7 minute heat duration it was enough wind to run the competition (baring in mind a very bad wind forecast)
Riders not so lucky in the light winds were Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil) losing to Cesar Portas (North), Kevin Langeree (Naish) losing to Rui Meira (Naish), Alvaro Onieva (Best) losing to Petr Tyushkevich (Cabrinha) and Etienne Lhote (F One) losing to Youri Zoon (Slingshot).
For the girls it was nearly the usual story with Brunha Kajiya (Best) passing through along with Ania Grzlinska (North), but I through the spanner in the works against the World Champion Kristin Boese (Best). I had no pressure with her being the champion so just went out for fun, but out of nowhere moves came clear in my head and I landed everything i did including down loop railey to blind, railey to blind, back to blind... I was lucky enough to send her into the losers final with me passing into the winners final to face Bruna Kajiya at her home spot! The final was good and Bruna landed her signature blind judge along with s bend to blind and other unhooked tricks. i on the other hand kited a good first heat, but lost all strength for the second half. Bruna finished first with me in 2nd.
