A Battle is about to blaze. The Euro – Cup kicks off next weekend in France. The big Frenchman and general windsurfing super hero Antoine Albeau will be under attack from the current world and European Formula champions, Steve Allen of Australia and Ross Williams of the UK. Also making his presence known is the huge frame of Finian Maynard, the current world speed record holder, Albeau won this event last year so is the bookies favourite. The event also sees the welcome return of Wojtek Brzozowski. Wojtek who was unbeatable within Formula during the early days has been retired for the last year because of injury. He is now back on form with a new sponsor in Severne sails.
The event, held at Leucate on the French South coast can deal a real bag of conditions, but winds of 40knots are not uncommon, and like last year we could expect some extreme action of warp speeds and mutliple crashes. Winning windy slalom is the real deal and Antoine Albeau is a master of this, he won the super windy PWA pozo event last year.
The Mondial du Vent event is this year not just a windsurfing competition, but aims to have a festival atmosphere with plenty of actvivities on the beach side, it will be well worth a visit to blend in some French culture and watch the fastest windsurfers in the world battle it out on the water. In fact the main organiser was once one of the fastest windsurfers in the world, the legendary Pascal Maka..
