Maui has been great the last couple of days. Good wind and some OK waves.
Sylt was fun for me. It is always a nice place to go. There are loads of people there to watch the contest, and it is one of the less stressful contests as we usually only get a couple of days of wind and therefore, get most of the week to relax!
Against Bjorn, I knew I had to sail a really strong heat. He is Bjorn Dunkerbeck, the most successful windsurfer in the world ever! The conditions were very marginal, so it was really just about who would get the best ramp to jump off and the best wave to ride. Luckily, I got a couple of good jump ramps on my first run out which allowed me to do a nice back loop and then a nice big forward. Then I spent the rest of the heat trying to find a decent wave to ride and milk all the way in.
It was the first time I have beaten Bjorn in a heat. We had a heat in Gran Canaria this year and he beat me, so I was very happy when they announced the results the other way round this time!
It feels great to be third in the world in waves. Waves has always been my favourite discipline, and I will keep on trying to get better and better results in all the disciplines over the next years.
Hoping that the forecast swell will arrive tomorrow! Could be the first tow in session of the year! Probably be crap though knowing my usual luck when I plan to go on a dawn patrol! We\'ll have to see!
