The conditions has been teasing, but finally competition got underway at the Tiree Wave Classic.
Many of the UK's top pro riders, along with Albert Pijoan and Justyna Sniady, made the long journey from Europe to the island to the north of Scotland for one of the biggest events on the British Wavesailing Association calendar.
Today the competition kicked off, the pro riders getting through a single elimination in the cross-onshore, port tack conditions at Balephuil. It was Ben Proffitt who took first position in the single, with Ross Williams in second. Just behind these two was Adam Lewis in third and Phil Horrocks in fourth.
In the ladies fleet Justyna Sniady was victorious ahead of Megan Gayda, for more details on the womens, amateurs, masters and youth results head on over to our sister site Boards here.
PWA head judge Duncan Coombs has pledged £100 to the first rider to land a DRY double at the contest, but without the jumping conditions really coming through this hasn't been managed just yet. The forecast is looking light for tomorrow, but Friday brings hope of a double elimination and more chances for a pro to become £100 richer!
