It's been a busy weekend for the world of windsurfing with strong winds hitting not just the PWA event but also the DEFI Wind. Read more about that in a later update.
In Costa Brava, the PWA saw light winds for a number of days before the Tramontana finally settled in to offer decent racing conditions. It was a close fought battle on the final days but some of the big names were certainly back in the mix, none other than Björn Dunkerbeck who showed that he is certainly not one to be forgotten and clocked his first bullet for the season plus a third place in a heated battle on the final race.
In the end it was Antonie Albeau who showed his dominance after winning with a race to spare. Fortunately for the Frenchman there were enough races to allow a discard, one which he would need come the final race where his eagerness to win saw him over early straight from the outset. However, in the previous race he had seen off a heavy attack from a fired up Pascal Tossali who almost knocked Albeau off his board during one of the gybe marks, Albeau managed to stay strong and come out clean and ahead. A masterful display once again and proof that he is currently the man to beat.

In fact Albeau was not the only Frenchman who found himself standing tall in front of the worlds media, it was a crowded French affair aboard the podium in Costa Brava, where Cyril Moussilmani and Pierre Mortefon took 2nd and 3rd place respectively after a solid and consistent performance throughout.
Also worthy of a mention was Ben van der Steen who fought off a spell of bad luck during a couple of the earlier races to finally emerge victorious in the final of round 5. Having come from the IFCA Slalom Worlds as the 2014 Slalom World Champion he left his mark at the final hurdle to show that he also has a strong shot for the overall title this year.
