RBSC: Duncan’s View

The Storm Chase is on and it sounds like it could be one of the single most incredible windsurfing spectacles to date. There’s three possible locations to chose from, but it looks like ‘Back of Lighthouse’ could be the place to go.

Ahead of the mammoth trip, Boardseeker caught up with PWA and Storm Chase head judge Duncan Coombs to find out his view on the upcoming event…

Duncan Coombs in Tenerife, with Leon Jamaer who will replace Robby Swift in the contest.

“What to expect… I am only guessing at this one because it’s unknown for a lot of us.

“The first thing that springs to mind is EXTREME and I am intrigued to witness such massive swell.

“After more than a quarter of a century of travelling to windsurfing locations I have never flown to a swell forecast of this magnitude.

I think it will take balls of steel to smack one of these Tasi monster lips.

“From some of the images I have seen from John Potts, our local man down there, waves of quality can be ridden in the XXL range. I am super amped to judge this contest alongside the legendary ex-world champion Scott Mckercher and the number one German wave guru Klaas Voget.

“Winds will be gale force so tiny sails will be the order of the day. There will be three location choices so we are expecting to find the perfect angle for the severe gales from WNW direction. For sure we will see some of the most radical windsurfing ever witnessed on the planet.

“Looking forward to an unreal trip.
