West Kirby and speed sailing really do go hand in hand, no more is this evident than in the records that were broken in 2012 by the likes of Steve Thorp. Well that was certainly a year to remember, not just for the GPS speed sailors but the ones that made their way to Luderitz for two weeks of pure speed sailing, smashing records left right and centre. Now we are in to the new year and Kirby has already come alive with a perfect session for many of the locals and visitors who travelled there.
Talking of visitors it turns out Dutch speedster, Hans Kreisel was the one to snap his board. The video producers went on to say “he thinks he hit a polythene bag that was in the water causing his board to stop suddenly, breaking it into two. The speeds these guys were going was phenomenal (peaks in excess of 50 kts)”!
Fancy taking part, then you’ll need a GT31 Speed Monitor, which you can get your hands on by clicking here.
